AARP HomeFit: A Guide to Creating a Safe & Comfortable "Lifelong Home"
Event Information
About this Event
IOA is proud to partner with AARP in debuting a new AARP program: HomeFit. HomeFit has been created to help older adults and adults with disabilities to remain independent and living in the comfort of their homes, for as long as possible.
Both IOA and AARP consistently find that older and disabled adults want to stay in their current homes and communities; however, barely one percent of the nation’s housing supply contains any “universal design” elements — such as single-story living or a sink that can be reached from a wheelchair.
On December 3rd, Institute on Aging welcomes you to a 1-hour, online training, based on the AARP HomeFit Guide. This brand-new presentation can help individuals and families make their current or future residence – or that of a loved one or client – their “lifelong home.” Please note: This training is the same as the one being offered on Dec. 17th.
After this training, participants will be able to:
(1) Recognize at least 3 key areas in which a home can be modified to support changing needs and lifestyle at any age.
(2) Identify at least 5 low-cost modifications or updates for making a home safe, and which can easily be performed by a "handy" friend or family member.
(3) Distinguish between modifications that are “do-it-yourself” (DIY) or that are best left to a professional.
(4) Name at least 4 different types of home-modification specialists, and how each of these specialists can address different needs.
Participants are encouraged, but not required to download the free HomeFit guide available on www.aarp.org/homefit
