This celebration does not take the place of the official university commencement ceremony, but is intended to provide African and African American graduates with an intimate and African-centered recognition honoring your achievement among a community of family, peers, and friends. During the ceremony, there is an opportunity for family members to play an active role in the ceremony by donning you with a Kente academic stole (provided compliments of the Office of African American Programs & Services), acknowledging your degree/certificate attainment.
