DESCRIPTION:

In a lively presentation, Jill Schlesinger will help you avoid some of the most common traps that can wreak havoc on your financial life.  Drawing from her years of experience as a trader, financial adviser and business analyst for CBS News, Schlesinger will focus on three chapters from her book, "The Dumb THings Smart People Do with Their Money: Thirteen Ways to Right Your Financial Wrongs" (Ballantine Books, 2019).  Taking on Too Much Risk, Indulging Yourself Too Much During Your Early Retirement Years, and Trying to "Time" the Market are a few of the many areas Schlesinger will unpack, she'll explain the underlying psychology that might cause you to make mistakes and offer guidance on how to do better.

BIO: 

Jill Schlesinger, CFP, is the Emmy-nominated and Gracie Award-winning business analyst for CBS News.  She covers the economy, markets, investing and anything else with a dollar sign on TV, the "Jill on Money" podcast, radio (including her nationally syndicated show, "Jill on Money" which won the 2018 Gracie Award for the Best National Talk Show), the web and her blog, "Jill on Money."  Schlesinger won a 2018 Personal Finance Reporting Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association and the National Endowment for Financial Education.  Prior to her second career at CBS, Schlesinger spent 14 years as the co-owner and chief investment officer for an independent investment advisory firm.  Following graduation from Brown University, she began her career as a self-employed options trader on the New York Commodities Exchange.
