SPEAKER:

Sam Stovall

Chief Investment Strategist/CFRA

TITLE:

Outlook 2017: Will the Bull be Extended or Extinguished?

DESCRIPTION:

If the bull market had ended on November 25, 2016 with the then most recent high, it would have been the second-most expensive bull-market top, with a P/E near 25X.  What's keeping prices afloat?  Sam Stovall, Chief Investment Strategist of CFRA and author of The Seven Rules of Wall Street will share with us CFRA's investment outlook for 2017, the sectors that should do well or poorly under the new administration, and how investors should position their portfolios to balance risk and return.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:

  • EARNINGS OUTLOOK: Recession fears are being fanned by the prospects for a "v-shaped" recovery.
  • VALUATIONS: The "Rule of 20" says the S&P could approach 2350 by the end of 2017.
  • SEASONALITY: The S&P 500's return from November through April is usually much stronger than from May to October.  Investing cyclically from November to April, and then defensively from May to October, would have outpaced the S&P 500 by more than 500 basis points annually since 1990.
