AAF Birmingham is excited to have Betsy Bugg Holloway, Chief Marketing Officer, Professor of Marketing for Samford University speak at our July luncheon. She will tell us about the ongoing plans for marketing and branding at Samford University. In her role she has responsibility for all marketing and branding initiatives across the operations of Samford University. Prior to assuming this role, Holloway served as the Dwight Moody Beeson Chair of Business and Professor of Marketing in the Brock School of Business at Samford University. She teaches courses in both the undergraduate and graduate (MBA) programs, and was the founding academic director of the Brock Scholars Program, the undergraduate honors program in the school. Dr. Holloway earned her B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University, an M.B.A. degree from Samford University and her Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Alabama (2003).
Prior to her academic career, Dr. Holloway worked and lived in Japan (1992) and was employed from 1993-1999 for a global pharmaceutical firm, Scandipharm Inc. (now Actavis). She managed a Midwest sales territory based out of Chicago, and then spent five years building the company’s international operations. She most recently served as the company’s director of international business development. In this role, Holloway was responsible for the company’s international division and global sales offices in Argentina, Denmark, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. She lived previously in the United Kingdom (1974 & 1981), France (1985) and Japan (1992-1993), and has working knowledge of French, Spanish and Japanese languages.
Dr. Holloway’s research interests include services marketing, consumer behavior and reputation management. Since entering higher education she has published more than 50 academic articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings and regularly presents her research at academic conferences in the U.S. and abroad. She previously served as a Visiting Professor at Kiev Business School (Ukraine), University of Jordan, and Beijing Institute of Technology. She serves higher education on the national level, including appointment on the editorial review board of Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice. Dr. Holloway is the immediate past president (2010-2012) of Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society, which operates on more than 290 college and university campuses today. She is an active member of the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Marketing Science and the Society for Marketing Advances.
Dr. Holloway is engaged in the local community in a variety of capacities. She serves on the board of directors for the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA), Rotary Club of Birmingham, Scholarships for Kids, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra Endowment and the Estelle Campbell Foundation (Pittsburgh, PA). She serves on two corporate boards, the BBVA Compass Birmingham Board of Directors and the McKinney Capital Advisory Board. Previous board service includes American Red Cross (Central Alabama), the IPC Foundation (board chair 2010-2011), and the Vanderbilt University board of trustees, where she represented her class as a Young Alumni Trustee from 1992-1996. Dr. Holloway is a member of the 2009-2010 class of Leadership Birmingham, is a graduate of Momentum (2011) and was a 2011 Fellow of the Aspen Institute.
