Event description

Description

Wednesday, March 14. Redefining Health
Wednesday, March 21. Eating Well
Wednesday, March 28. Cleaning House
Wednesday, April 4: Building Healthy Communities
Wednesday, April 11. Curing Consumption
Wednesday, April 18: Healthy Planet / Healthy Self

Each session runs from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.

In this full six-session group discussion course beginning on March 14, we explore the connections between the health of our communities and the health of our planet. During the course, designed by the Northwest Earth Institute, we also learn about the limitations of the current medical model and the places where our personal health intersects with the environment—from our food and homes, to our communities and society. Together, we discover actions that promote good health and in turn, promote a healthier environment.

Each session is built around a set of readings from the NWEI course book, with rotating facilitation by course participants -- ourselves. The course is hosted by Michigan Friends Center and offered in partnership with Transition Town Chelsea.

Your registration covers all six sessions, or as many sessions as you are able to attend. Also included, yours to keep, is the beautiful Northwest Earth Institute course book full of thought provoking essays and articles written by authors with real expertise in the areas of health and ecology -- including many names that you may already know. Above that, it is our group discussion that really brings the material to life.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

"A World of Health" is an adult-level course and may be attended by persons age 12 years and above. Younger children should be supervised by an adult.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Directions: Take M-52 north from Chelsea. Turn right on Waterloo Road. Soon after that, turn right on Clark Lake Road. The Michigan Friends Center will then be on your left, down a short driveway marked by a wooden sign. The parking lot holds 35 cars comfortably.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please contact Carolyn Holland at manager@mfcenter.org, or by telephone at 734-475-1892.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes. You are welcome to transfer your registration to another person, as long as they bring in your ticket.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

It is recommended but not required.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

If you have transferred your ticket, that is okay.

What if I have to miss a session or two?

This is a very common situation due to busy schedules. Since each course session concentrates on a different aspect of health/environment, the sessions tend to stand by themselves quite well. The course book also helps to fill the gap.

What if the course fee is a financial burden to me?

Full or partial scholarships are available. If you might benefit from a scholarship, please contact Carolyn Holland at manager@mfcenter.org, or by telephone at 734-475-1892.
