Prior to the formal start of the PSGB Winter Meeting, there will be a Women's Career Building Workshop, sponsored by the Elsevier Foundation, with support from the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) and the American Association of Physical Anthropology Committee on Diversity. This is part of a series of workshops held or to be held in the USA, South Africa and the UK, with thanks to the AAPA Committee on Diversity Women’s Initiative (co-Chairs Robin Bernstein and Andrea Taylor). Registration and food are complementary, and additional funding for this workshop includes travel grants, and a sum dedicated to facilitating travel for scholars from underrepresented groups to attend the workshop. All women (at all postgraduate career stages - i.e. graduate students to senior academics) are eligible to attend. Registration is limited to 25 participants.
If you are interested in applying for one of the travel grants, please complete the relevant portions of the registration form. Decisions on funding will be made in the beginning of December. The maximum for most awards will be 75 pounds, but we will consider all requests.
Mentoring and Work-Life Satisfaction
This workshop will be based on material that AWIS has developed for and delivered to STEM women groups, both academic and non-academic. The AAPA Committee on Diversity’s Women’s Initiative has offered workshops at the AAPA meetings over the past three years for women biological anthropologists at different career stages. AWIS has customized and combined two of their nationally recognized workshops (on mentoring and work-life satisfaction) to address those issues identified by prior AAPA workshop participants as being especially important to women biological anthropologists.
