Description

MELISSA A. FABELLO is a world-renowned expert in the intersection of body politics and social justice. And now she's bringing her lauded interactive presentations to you live – online! Join her for her first-ever series of webinars. Come to one or two – or save by coming to all three.

RECLAIMING OUR BODIES AND OURSELVES:

EXPLORING WOMEN'S SEXUALITY THROUGH FIVE BS BODY MYTHS

For National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Melissa is offering a webinar on how women are socialized to understand the attractiveness and functionality of their bodies – and how that interrupts their ability to connect to their sexuality authentically. In a society where women are constantly told that their sexuality exists for male consumption, there can be a lot of confusion about what to do with feelings of attraction and arousal. To complicate this further, women are often made to feel ashamed and disgusted by their bodies, leading to a disconnect between the emotional and the physical. This webinar, which focuses on five ways that women are taught to hate and distrust their bodies, works to bust myths and educate women about their bodies and their feelings in a feminist, sex-positive way.

TUESDAY, 2/27 @ 8pm EST (5pm PST)

WHY FEMINISM? WHY NOW?:

AN INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL JUSTICE – AND WHY WE NEED IT

For Women's History Month, Melissa is offering a webinar to explore how the feminist movement presents itself today – unpacking widely misunderstood concepts – and why it's necessary to be involved. Often, when people stand against feminism, it’s because they’re simply not sure what the movement advocates for or what makes it relevant in 2018. This presentation – which uses grounded examples, lots of multimedia, and plenty of humor – is a fantastic introduction to what feminism means today, including explanations of concepts such as patriarchy, intersectionality, and privilege, that pushes the audience to the edge of their comfort zone while also holding space.

TUESDAY, 3/20 @ 8pm EST (5pm PST)

NIGHTMARE DRESSED LIKE A DAYDREAM:

THE NORMALIZATION OF DATING VIOLENCE IN POP MUSIC

For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Melissa is offering a webinar on an inextricably related topic: dating violence – and how our favorite bops often romanticize it. Listen closely to Top 40 radio, and what you find may surprise and disturb you. At every turn, we’re being inundated with messages and images that normalize unhealthy and abusive dating behaviors, from obsession and possessiveness to stalking. This interactive presentation gives an introduction to the dynamics of intimate partner violence and then uses pop culture – including an epic takedown (with love) of Taylor Swift – to highlight how ubiquitous harmful messages about sex and dating truly are.

TUESDAY, 4/24 @ 8pm EST (5pm PST)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I ACCESS THE WEBINAR? Easy peasy, lemon squeezy, baby doll. Twenty-four hours before the scheduled event, you will be sent a link to the e-mail address you used to buy tickets. This link will bring you to a high-quality Zoom room, where you will find Melissa waiting for you. We would recommend downloading Zoom ahead of time, if you don't already have it installed. It's free! And you can find it here.

CAN I BUY TICKETS TO SINGLE EVENTS? YES. From Wednesday, 2/14, until 48 hours before the event that you're interested in, you can purchase tickets to just that event (or two!).

ARE REFUNDS AVAILABLE? You have up to one week (seven days) before the scheduled event to request a refund through EventBrite. Too late for that? That's okay! You can always transfer your ticket to someone else by simply forwarding them the link when you get it! What an amazing friend you are.

AM I JUST GOING TO BE TALKED AT? Hell no. Webinars have a reputation for being dry – an expert with lots of letters behind their name, rambling to you (uh, reading straight off the PowerPoint) in a monotone voice, putting you to sleep. That is not what this is about. This is a dynamic presentation, which means that you will be interacting with Melissa the whole time, through asking and answering questions. There will also be multimedia used – and plenty of corny jokes along the way.

WHAT IF I CAN'T ATTEND LIVE? If you're unable to attend live, but still buy a ticket, you will be sent a recording of the event. As such, this is accessible worldwide! You just need to let us know that you fall into that camp by contacting us.

I HAVE A QUESTION NOT ANSWERED HERE. No problem! You can use the contact form to send in your question.
