About this Event

As part of its annual visiting writers’ series, EWU's Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing program is proud to welcome renowned American Author Amy Tan to EWU. Join us at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 as Amy reads from her work and is joined on-screen by EWU faculty and students for a Q & A session.

Amy is an American writer whose works explore mother-daughter relationships. Her best known work is The Joy Luck Club, which has been translated into 35 languages and was adapted into a commercially successful film. A few of Amy's other bestselling novels include: The Kitchen God's Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter's Daughter, Saving Fish from Drowning, and most recently Valley of Amazement.

Add a taste of Hong Kong to your evening

Live nearby? Order takeout from FEAST World Kitchen, a new incubator space for refugee and immigrant chefs in Spokane, led by Eagle alum Ross Carper (’09). In celebration of Amy’s work, FEAST World Kitchen will feature a traditional Chinese menu prepared by culinary-trained chef Michelle Ho, who emigrated from Hong Kong in 2016. Dishes will include a vegan "Amy Tan special" – inspired by Amy herself. Takeout orders can be placed starting Friday, Jan. 15 at friday.feastworldkitchen.org. Don’t delay, only a limited number of these special meals will be available.

Pick-up will be available from 6:30-7:15 p.m. on January 22 to enjoy during the event! Scheduling pick up earlier works as well.

Registration is free, but if you would like to support this event and future events like it, all while supporting EWU student success, please donate any amount to the EWU Creative Writing program.

For those out of town who may want to support FEAST World Kitchen, they have a link to do so on their website.
