Event description

Description

Youʻre Invited to: A Very Merry Kauluwehi Wreath Workshop

Date: December 22nd, 2018
Time: 7:30am - 3:30pm
Meeting Location: Division of Forestry and Wildlife (19 East Kawili Street in Hilo)
Transportation: Provided from meeting location to picking site and back to the classroom.
Fee: $25/no refunds (All materials to create one 10" wreath are included)

The Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Natural Area Reserve System and the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources invite you to a day of fun and festive wreath-making!

Participants will make one 10" wreath using a colorful array of native plants (all materials needed to construct one 10" wreath are included in fee). Instructors will provide a step-by-step class to guide participants in composing a beautiful wreath that will bring cheer and festivity to your home during the holiday season!

Participants will learn how to sustainably pick plant materials to ensure our forests remain healthy, how to process materials for wreath-making, and how to construct your wreath. Participants will also learn how to obtain a picking-permit for State Forest Reserve lands and other appropriate places to pick.

Registered participants will meet at 7:30am the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (19 East Kawili Street) in Hilo where we will load into vehicles (transportation provided) and drive up Saddle Road to collect foliage for our wreaths in the Forest Reserve. Our workshop will continue back at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) classroom where we will assemble our wreaths for the remainder of the afternoon.

Due to the Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death (ROD) disease, this will be a ‘ōhi‘a-free workshop. We will be composing our wreaths with alternative native plants such as wāwae‘iole, ‘a‘ali‘i, and pūkiawe. To learn more about the ROD disease please visit: www.rapidohiadeath.org

Fees are non-refundable

We hope you can join us!
