Two years after John announced on our honeymoon that he wanted to quit his job and "do something in cheese," we unlocked the front door to our very own cheese shop on February 11, 2010. We've been asked many times since, "Why a Cheese Shop?" and the answer is simple. After putting ourselves through cheese bootcamps, running a cheese club out of our house, attending cheese conferences, interning for French affineur Herve Mons, journeying through Europe, and eating our way through thousands of tasty cheese morsels, we honed in on our true passions: eating, talking, traveling, and spending time together. Over a bottle of wine one evening, we realized that working behind a cheese case would bring them all together.
A Valentine's Pairing: Cheese & Chocolate feat. Chocolate Maker's Studio
Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (CST)
Nothing screams Valentine's Day like the two most decadent and delicious of foods, cheese and chocolate! Natural partners, these treats will certainly strike a romantic and indulgent tone for Valentine's Eve. In this class, Hyde Park chocolatier Steven Lawrence will share his delicious confections, each of which we'll have paired with it's perfect cheese-y match! Expect sweet flavors, yes, but also savory, smoky, salty, earthy, nutty, and fruity. We guide you through a tasting of six to seven cheeses and chocolate pairings, accompanied by olives, nuts, and Easy Tiger bread. Sparkling wines are sublime to round out this pairing (and for celebrating the year's most romantic day!), so if you'd like to reserve a bottle of true Champagne Valley Champagne (white or rose) to have chilled awaiting your arrival, please contact email@example.com for pricing and to reserve your order. As always, all wines will be available for purchase at our Shop before class' start. Note: Doors open at 6:45pm and the event starts at 7:00pm. You may choose to arrive early and separately purchase our wine or beer pairings from the Cheese Shop prior to the class the day of the event. Should you choose to bring your own wine or beer, there is a $4 set-up fee. As the tasting wraps up around 8:30pm, we'll give you and your guests time to mingle and enjoy the Cheese House, while we cut-to-order any cheese from the class that you'd like to purchase so you can re-create the tasting at home. Personal delivery of cheese directly to your chair. Does it get any better than that?
A couple RSVP reminders: This class is $40 (plus tax and processing fees). Once you click to purchase tickets, you will only have 5 minutes to complete your order. To pay with a gift card, click "show other payment options" under the "Order Now" icon (and you will be contacted later to get the gift card number). Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable to other dates. You will receive a confirmation email which you should bring along with you on class night. We allow individuals to purchase up to 4 seats; note that we can only guarantee seating together for parties of four or less. (If your party is larger, contact us for information on private parties and tastings!) If you're unable to purchase one or more tickets, it means they are sold out; please sign up for our waitlist (once per person). We are often able to accommodate guests off this list. Lastly, remember that you can come into the Cheese Shop anytime and taste cheese for free. Our cheesemongers are here to guide you through the case and answer any questions.
