Event description

Description

Harlem Opera Theater is pleased to present A Tribute to African-American Women Composers, Elizabeth Guerrant, Virginia Lowe, Harriet Davidson, Betty Jackson King, Evelyn Simpson Currenton, Marie F. Busch, Camille Nickerson, and Lena McLin; also, Zenobia Powell Perry and Mary Lou Williams. Photo: Margaret Bonds on piano, Undine Smith Moore, Jacqueline Hairston and Florence Price. The concert will commence with the beautiful sounds of Ralph Vaughn William's Serenade to Music. We commemorate the 80th anniversary of its premier and the 60th anniversary of the composer's death.

Join the cast of exceptional male classical singers as we honor our past, highlighting the treasured works of Women Composers of the Spiritual Arrangement. Featured singers: countertenors, Kenneth Alston, Patrick Dailey, Andrew Darling and Matthew Truss; tenors, Keaun Guy and Marquis Fuse; baritone, Daniel Rich and bass baritone, Edwin Davis. Several of the singers are Harlem Opera Theater Vocal Competition winners; several in our Tribute have appeared in leading roles on the international opera stage and on Broadway. Dr. Gregory Hopkins, Artistic Director, on piano.

This ensemble of classical singers will provide an evening to remember and the audience will leave the concert feeling richer having experienced the history and works of African-American women composers.
