Event description

Description

Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), will keynote the event. Rep. Smith is a leader in the Quiet Skies Caucus in Congress, a group of Representatives who have elevated aviation noise and environmental issues to the forefront, along with introducing and passing legislation on these issues.

We're also featuring talks by the World Health Organization, and by software developer Chris McCann, best known for his innovative Airnoise.io service that automatically reports users’ aircraft noise complaints.

Aircraft noise and emissions present human health and environmental concerns, impact property values and public safety, and create social, economic, and environmental justice disparities.

Sea-Tac Airport now has 1,200 flights per day, has added 100,00 annual overflights the past four years, and seeks to add another 80,000 annual overflights. This growth is challenged by new science, new legislation, new lawsuits, and new citizen activism. Join us to have your voice heard and your vote counted.

This free, open event will run from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien.

About the League

The League seeks to empower voters living in the shadow of the 8th busiest airport in the United States with the information to fully understand the risks of this expansion, the alternatives, our right and choices, and how to engage our policymakers for change.
