Event description

Description

From Their Neighborhood to Ours.

Hope & Sesame is proud to present another community dinner experience, and--for the first time--to offer a taste of two different cultures at one event. Syria and Iraq are neighbors: two distinct countries whose people share a border as well as the Arabic language and the Islamic faith. And on September 30th, they'll be sharing our kitchen to prepare a meal for you that's straight from their neighborhood to ours.

Please join us for the evening to meet and welcome our "Chefugees" and their families, hear some of their stories, and enjoy delicious home cooking and traditional hospitality from Syria and Iraq.

To see photos of previous dinners and other events, please visit www.HopeAndSesame.org.

This dinner is made possible in part by the generosity and welcoming spirit of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.

FAQs

  • Food Sensitivities & Alcohol: The meal will include traditional Syrian and Iraqi cuisine, including vegetarian and gluten-free dishes along with those containing meat. In keeping with Muslim customs, this event is alcohol-free.

  • Attire: Please wear whatever makes you comfortable!

  • Children: Diners of all ages are welcome to join us, but because seating is limited and our events benefit our chefs, every person entering the venue must be holding a ticket.

  • Arrival & Check-in: Please enter the venue between 6:30 and 7 p.m. for check-in. Dinner will begin at about 7 p.m.

  • Parking & Access: St. Matthew's has plenty of free, immediately-adjacent parking in their lots off both Mesa and Steck. Persons with mobility issues can easily access the venue via the covered drop-off point in the larger Steck parking lot.

We would much rather have you eat dinner with us than make a donation. However, if you can't join us and still want to support the event, we are making a small number of Community Tickets available. Each Community Ticket you purchase will be given to a local refugee or immigrant, or someone who can join the table as an interpreter.
