 $69

Price includes Scotch Whisky tasting, beer, wine, appetizers and dance lesson.

Join us for a Taste of Scotland featuring libations, nibbles and music and dancing from the Highlands. The evening will commence with a special Scotch Whisky tasting led by Senior Master of Whisky, Spike McLure. You will be served typical Scottish treats, while sampling the oaky smoky goodness of Scotland’s finest distilleries. Then enjoy a demonstration of Scottish country dancing; buoyed by the spirit of the Highlands, join us on the floor for a dance lesson by expert, Christopher Gow.

Spike McClure, Senior Master of Whisky, is the son of a Scottish Presbyterian minister and the grandson of a whisky-loving granny: “There were always two holy spirits in our house. Every meal began with a grace and ended with a dram.” The inevitable consequence has been McClure’s life as a proselytizing whisky evangelist. For the past 14 years, McClure has been happily employed by the Diageo whisky portfolio, guiding legions of benighted consumers and retailers from a dark fear of flavor to the warm glow of whisky. Today, a well-traveled missionary for whisky, McClure returns regularly to the Holy Lands, (or the Highlands, anyway, of Scotland, Ireland, Kentucky and Tennessee), to reconnect with his roots in the industry: malt men and coopers and master distillers and blenders. A proud Keeper of the Quaich, McClure holds a General Certificate in Distilling (Cereal Option) from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.

Christopher Gow started reveling in reeling and Scottish country dancing.to placate his Scottish grandfather’s immense disappointment in not carrying on the family tradition of playing the violin. For over 30 years, Gow has been co-organizing the New York Scottish Ball, bringing absolute novices dancing all the reels after just a couple of practice sessions. Following a 20 year career as a sculpture expert at Sotheby’s, Gow branched out on his own and now also specializes in one-of-a-kind textiles and decorative accessories inspired by various corners of the world.

Attire: Highland Dress or Evening Attire preferred

NY Scottish Ball and The Princeton Club of New York proudly co-host this event.
