Description

In the final of three conversations, Ellise Smith, will put the body shamers to shame! she will explore the journey to embrace, rock, and celebrate one’s vivacious curves in a society that worships thinness. Smith will share her spoken word pieces and invites the community to bring their own pieces around body imagine. The event will include a community discussion, Q&A, and art activity making affirmation mirrors. Ms. Smith is the creator of Fatness Fiction and the award-winning podcast Plus Size Magic Radio.

What does it mean to fit in? How do we do so when who we are conflicts with our community? When—why—do we decide that trying to fit in (or not) helps us grow spiritually? In this series of three conversations, you are invited to explore how friction points that exist in personal and community (r)evolution can help us grow spiritually has human beings.

Join Maria Hamilton Abegunde (November 3), who uses African-based spiritual practices to heal intergenerational trauma; Brenda Weber (November 5), who grew up non-Mormon in a Mormon community; and Ellise Antoinette Smith (November 6), creator of Fatness Fiction to explore how friction points between personal and community (r)evolution can help us grow spiritually and as human beings.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Transportation. You may use public transportation by using IndyGo's trip planner at indygo.net

Bus: From the Downtown Transit Center, Bus #90 to the Garfield Park Station Rendering. Walk 5 minutes to the Tube Factory artspace.

Redline: Exit at Garfield Park.

Parking. Resident parking only along Cruft Street. Use the parking lot behind the Tube Factory or street parking along Shelby.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring your ticket (printed or mobile). If you forget it, we will also have a list of RSVP'd attendees at the event.
