Laura Shearin-Feimster received her BS in Biological Engineering from NC State and her Masters from Duke University. She has worked for 16 years as a water resources Engineer for Schnabel Engineering where her primary focus is on hydrology, hydraulics, and emergency planning for dams.

After several dam failures, the Town of Hope Mills, NC sought long-term, safe, and sustainable solution for their dam replacement and lake restoration project and became the first dam owner to have a dam certified through Envision as sustainable infrastructure. The Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure's (ISI) Envision certification process is similar in concept to the LEED system for building sustainability. Envision was created to set the standard for what constitutes high-performance sustainable infrastructure.
