A Survived & Punished Teach-In: How Your Prosecutor Harms Survivors
Event Information
Description
[texto en español a continuación]
Prosecutors around the country put survivors of sexual and domestic violence behind bars. In Queens, our district attorney criminalizes survivors of gender violence for acting in self-defense, being coerced into acting as an “accomplice,” and for securing resources needed to survive. The June DA election is an opportunity to demand that whoever becomes our prosecutor does not prosecute survivors. In March, six DA candidates committed to not prosecuting for self-defense and acts of survival in response to domestic and interpersonal violence. We need a community mobilized to make sure they follow through on that promise.
Join S&P NY’s DA Accountability working group for a public teach-in to learn how the DA’s office in Queens has consistently re-traumatized survivors and how the next DA can do better. We’ll share stories, gather community input, and discuss ways to plug in to ongoing work to hold the DA accountable!
This is a free event. If you choose to make a donation, 100% of your donation will go toward the costs of Survived & Punished NY's activities or we will donate them to a survivor's defense campaign.

The national S&P coalition is led by a core of organizers from the survivor defense campaigns, the national Free Marissa Now Mobilization Campaign and the California-based Stand With Nan-Hui campaign; the Chicago-based organization, Love and Protect (formerly the Chicago Alliance to Free Marissa Alexander); and the California Coalition for Women Prisoners. S&P also has two strong statewide team based in California and New York focused on freeing criminalized survivors from prisons and detention centers through organizing and policy advocacy in the state.
