A Spotlight on Corporate Governance
Wed, March 22, 2017, 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM GMT
What happens when governance goes wrong and how much does it really matter? This month’s Academy Event will cast a spotlight on corporate governance by exploring how and why things can go wrong. From bad practices to innocent omissions, a corporate governance failure can result in regulatory sanctions, directorship bans and even criminal action. Drawing upon recent GFSC Enforcement decisions, Haley Camp will guide the first half of the session through a fictitious case study looking at the worst of behaviours and exploring why they are so damaging both to the business and to Guernsey’s investment industry as a whole.
So what can actually be done about it? Sharon Blackwell will continue the session by exploring what companies can do to identify both the good and bad practices within their own organisations and, most importantly, how to fix them. Ultimately, this session is designed to consider the importance of honest introspection in engendering good corporate governance practices.”
