Session #1:

Estate Planning Basics: Making Sure You Have the Right Plan in Place

  • Learn the basics of estate planning and, if you have an estate plan already, whether that plan needs an update.
  • Learn about the critical documents that comprise an estate plan and what to consider when selecting people to act on your behalf.
  • Learn how the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 makes it possible for many people to simplify their existing estate plans.

Liza's book, The Family's Guide to Wills and Estate Planning, will be available at no cost to the first 20 people to register and attend Session #1.

Tuesday, May 30, 1:00 - 2:30 pm at Los Altos library in the Orchard Room. 13 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos

Session #2:

Fine-Tuning Your Estate Plan: Which Assets Should Go to Which Recipients?

  • Different types of assets have different tax treatments, so knowing the nuances is important before deciding who gets what.
  • If you have charitable intent, find out which assets are better to leave to charities than to people.
  • Learn about the different ways assets pass to your beneficiaries at your death and make sure your paperwork matches your intentions.

Tuesday, June 13, 1:00 - 2:30 pm at Los Altos library in the Orchard Room. 13 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos

Session #3:
Doing Good and Doing it Right: Making Tax Smart Gifts during your Lifetime

  • Learn how even small gifts in the form of Roth IRA matching contributions or 529 College Savings Plans can now make a huge difference in someone's life down the road.
  • Learn how to make charitable gifts during your lifetime that benefit both you and your favorite charities.
  • Find out about the tax benefits of donating appreciated assets, the use of Donor Advised Funds, and charitable rollovers from IRAs.
