Event description
Gain practical knowledge and skills through A-SBIRT training, to use in your current or future career.

About this Event

This training, part 2 of 2, is intended for pre-professionals or professionals looking to acquire skills in the administration of adolescent screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (A-SBIRT). The second part of the training focuses mainly on the implementation of the screening tool, so that attendees will be more comfortable with its use. The tool is intended to be used by professionals who will be working with youths, or adults, in order to recognize a substance use disorder. The purpose is to guide youths toward the cessation or reduction of substance use or refer them to appropriate treatment facilities. Studies show that adolescents are more at risk for engaging in adverse behaviors due to the use of substances. This screening tool is effective and easy to implement, which employs motivational interviewing techniques to promote a non-judgmental environment. This is led by an AmeriCorps Member serving at WYS with Prevention Corps. This training is open to the public and is for anyone who is interested in learning more about the topic.

Walk-ins are welcome, but space is limited. RSVP's are given priority for seats; seating is on a first come basis for walk-ins.
