Event description

Description

The Chinese Progressive Association was founded in 1972 by Chinatown elders, youth, and Asian American students to “work for the betterment of the Chinese community, to support other national minorities in the U.S. and all progressive people of the world, to struggle for equality and freedom.” Throughout CPA’s 45 year history, we have harnessed the energy of community volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to provide necessary services such as worker, tenant and immigrant rights and legal counseling; English and citizenship classes; art and culture work; and community social and political events in community spaces and in Portsmouth Square. From the beginning, we stood strong despite the uphill battles our communities faced on a day-to- day basis, and have secured meaningful victories that have uplift San Francisco and beyond. Come join us on this engaging 1.5-hour interactive walking tour. You’ll visit original sites and be a part of inspiring stories on wage theft victories, tenants organizing, and Black Lives Matter and multiracial solidarity.
