As part of the special program celebrating Romania’s Presidencyof the Council of the European Union (1 January 2019 - 30 June 2019), HE Mrs. Manuela Breazu, Ambassador of Romania, cordially invites you to:

A ROMANIAN MUSICAL SOIRÉE AT FARMLEIGH HOUSE

Program:

The singing of well known European vocal music, belonging to Antonio Vivaldi, Gioachino Rossini, Felix Mendelssohn, Francis Poulenc, Claude Debussy, Richard Strauss and Gheorghe Dima, will be interspersed with chamber music works of Romania’s most important composer, George Enescu, including duets, trios and his Nocturne ‘Villa d’Avrayen’ for piano quartet.

Artists:

Fionnuala Hunt is Ireland’s leading violinist. She has performed as Concertmaster with many orchestras across the globe including BBC Philharmonic, London Symphony, Melbourne Symphony and Wexford Festival Opera Orchestras. Fionnuala is Professor of Violin at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and has received an Honorary Doctorate from Queens University, Belfast.

Ioana Constantin-Pipelea is a Romanian soprano and a graduate of Royal Irish Academy of Music and Trinity College Dublin. She attended masterclasses at the Royal Opera House in London, National Opera Studio and English National Opera. Her most recent opera performance was at the Wexford Festival Opera as Fenitchka in opera "Risurrezione" by Alfano. She was also invited to sing as a soloist with the Ulster Orchestra, Belfast in BBC Radio Concert "Love is on the air" and NSO Dublin.

Aileen Cahill is an Irish musician and she completed her Masters in Solo Piano under Dr. John O'Conor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and was awarded a Fellowship Diploma for vocal and instrumental accompaniment from the London College of Music. Aileen has won many prizes and has been a frequent soloist with ensembles such as Budweis Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech), the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, RTÉ ConTempo Quartet and Concorde. She is a repetiteur at Maynooth University.

Gabriela Pipelea is a Romanian soprano and lectures in vocal music at the ‘Gheorghe Dima’ Music Academy in Cluj. She is touring as a soloist in various choral and vocal symphonic works as well as taking part in lied recitals around Europe. She is the winner of the ‘Ionel Perlea’ International singing competition.

Andreea Banciu and Adrian Mantu are two Romanian musicians. They are the violist and cellist of the celebrated RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, winner of 14 International Prizes (London, Berlin, Prague, Rome, Munich, Hamburg, Graz). They have had the honour of performing in front of personalities such as HE Mr. Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland, HRH Prince Charles, Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, Nobel Prize laureates and Pope John Paul II. The ConTempoQuartet is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Music from the National University of Ireland in Galway.Thursday, 21 March 2019, 7 p.m.Farmleigh House, White’s Rd, Phoenix Park, Dublin 15, D15 TD50A wine & canapés reception will start at 6:00pm, prior to the concert
