Passing through spectacular rhododendron forests, alpine yak pastures and beautiful lakes stocked with snowy mountains at altitudes ranging between 2400-4200 m, the Druk Path Trek is one of the finest short treks in Bhutan that leads through an ancient trading route, over high mountain passes connecting the valleys of Paro and Thimphu.

The tour will follow along the itinerary mentioned below:

Day 01: Arrive at Paro by air or road. The flight to Paro is one of the most alluring in the Himalayan belt. The tiny airport nestled among the steep mountains of the Himalayas is said to be one of the most dangerous in the world. The journey has stunning views to offer and gets even exciting as you are about to touch down the runway. The first gift from Bhutan as you exit the aircraft is clean, fresh, mountain air. The country is not just carbon neutral, it is carbon negative.

Day 02: Hike up to the famous Taktsang or Tiger's Nest Monastery to acclimatize. Leisure around the beautiful town of Paro in the evening and prepare yourself for the six-day-long trek starting the following day. You may also pamper yourself by choosing to experience the ancient traditional hot stone bath which is known for it's healing properties.

Day 03: Druk Path Trek - Paro to Jele Dzong / Overnight at the campsite.

DISTANCE 8 KM | TIME 4-5 HOURS | 1003M ASCENT | 10M DESCENT | CAMP ALTITUDE 3,480M

Eat breakfast and get set to begin your six-day long trek across the Druk Path. The day’s trek follows a gravel road past a few farms for about 45 minutes and then heads uphill through apple orchards, smallholdings of Damchena village and pine forests. Perched on a whaleback ridge is the Jele Dzong (3,490m) which is mostly in ruins. The site also has a Lhakhang with the statute of Buddha Shakyamuni. On a clear day, the views of Paro town distant below and Mount Jumolhari (7,314m) are breathtaking.

Day 04: Druk Path Trek - Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha / Overnight at the campsite.

DISTANCE 10 KM | TIME 4-5 HOURS | 310M ASCENT | 50M DESCENT | CAMP ALTITUDE 3,780M

As you walk through the trail of thick alpine forests and dwarf rhododendrons, you are offered astounding panoramas of Mount Jumolhari (7,314m) and the surrounding. You might also catch a glimpse or hear sounds of the beautiful monal pheasant bird. Continue your uphill walk to reach a yak herder’s pasture at Jangchulakha (3,780m) with outstanding views of the Himalayan range.

Day 05: Druk Path Trek - Jangchulakha to Jimilang Tsho / Overnight at the campsite.

DISTANCE 11 KM | TIME 4-5 HOURS | 400M ASCENT | 300M DESCENT | CAMP ALTITUDE 3,870M

The trek follows the ridge to a saddle at 4,040m, then drops a bit and follows the right back to Jangchu La Pass (4,180m). One can see sensational views of the Thimphu and Paro Valleys on their walk through the juniper trees and dwarf rhododendrons. After a steep descent, we encounter the Jimilang Tsho meaning Sand Ox Lake (3,880m) which is known for its giant-sized trouts.
The campsite near Jimilang Tsho also offers you a view of Mount Jichu Drake (6,989m), the representation of the protective deity of the Paro valley.

Day 06: Druk Path Trek - Jimilang Tsho to Simkota Tsho / Overnight at the campsite.

DISTANCE 11 KM | TIME 4-5 HOURS | 820M ASCENT | 400M DESCENT | CAMP ALTITUDE 4,110M

The trail traverses through dwarf rhododendron trees and Janetsho Lake. It is a short climb along the side of the ridge and then a short, steep descent to camp at 4,040m which is near Simkota Tsho Lake famous for its trout. As the trail winds and undulates, it leads you through stunning views of the Himalaya spread across valleys and the sublime Simkota Tsho (4,110m) after one final spur concluding your day’s trek and bringing you to your campsite.

Day 07: Druk Path Trek - Simkota Tsho to Phajoding.

DISTANCE 14 KM | TIME 7 HOURS | 100M ASCENT | 1800M DESCENT | THIMPHU CITY 2,320M

The day’s expedition begins with an unhurried ascend up to a small saddle at 4,150m. On a clear day, the majestic Mount Gangkar Puensum (7,541m), the highest peak in Bhutan and other Himalayan peaks are observable from here. Following yet another undulation is the Phume La Pass at 4,210m. Adorned with prayer flags, the place brings you a scent of settlement as you observe the Thimphu city far in the distance. Further, descend and passing by the Thujidrag Goemba which is a meditation center, you reach to the Phajoding Goempa (3,870m), a significant pilgrimage site. Making your way to the Thimphu city is a walkway downhill through forests of blue pine and juniper. Arrive at the road ahead of Sangaygang on the outskirts of the Thimphu valleys where your vehicle will drive you from.

Spend the evening exploring the town center and eat dinner either at a restaurant in the town or at your hotel/resort. However, we suggest the latter.

Day 08: Based on time available and your interests, we will be able to customize your tour from today.
