Event description

Description

The Reading League, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-aligned reading instruction, presents "The Science of Reading" with Dr. Jan Hasbrouck. The Reading League is a league of educators, administrators, researchers, reading specialists, parents, speech language pathologists, linguists, special educators, school psychologists, consultants, and more.

Emily Hanford's viral American Public Media podcast Hard Words: Why Aren't Our Kids Being Taught to Read? has swept the nation. Come to this event to learn how scientific research shows how children read and how they should be taught. Millions of kids are not learning to read, and many educators are still learning the science of reading.

What is the 'science of reading' and how can teachers implement it in their classrooms? This FREE event, presented by one of the nation's foremost literacy experts, Dr. Jan Hasbrouck, provides an overview of the newest findings about how the brain becomes a reading brain, and how teachers can use this knowledge to meet the needs of ALL students, including those with dyslexia. Resources will be shared.

A special welcome by Dr. Maria Murray, founder of The Reading League. The Reading League was founded in order that the findings from scientific research could be accessed by educators for the benefit of ALL students as they learn to read. This event is FREE to the public through the generous support of Voyager Sopris, publisher of LETRS professional development for teachers. ***FREE PARKING adjacent to the Library Building.***
