A Queer Nigun Project with Rena Branson
Date and time
Join us for an evening of ritual and song with Jewish musician, ritual leader, and educator Rena Branson in Laurelhurst Park.
About this event
The intention for this event is to provide a healing space for queer-identified folks to gather and cocoon ourselves in Jewish melodies that transcend language (nigunim). Maybe you’re looking to heal your relationship with Judaism or with queerness or with singing or with your self or with existence. This hour won’t do all that, but it might help nurture some brave baby-steps forward. This event is queer-centered, but allies are also welcome. Folks are welcome to come and listen if you don’t feel like singing. We love you. ❤

Rena Branson (she/they) is the founder of A Queer Nigun Project, which hosts healing gatherings for marginalized Jews to learn and sing nigunim (wordless Jewish melodies, often from the Chassidish tradition). They organize monthly singing circles alongside chaplains in jails, as well as events for LGBTQIA+ folks in New York and Philadelphia. You can hear her recordings of old and new nigunim on Soundcloud.
