Description

Join us for an essential 2-Day Strategy Focused Seminar to improve outcomes for the successful implementation of the Nurtured Heart Approach® in organizational development and direct practice.

You attended a Nurtured Heart® training event, now what? You walked away feeling inspired and fueled with passion and realize quickly it is just not enough. You aren’t even sure where to begin and know you are in dire need for a framework to create success with the theory from the NHA. You need a strategic step by step implementation plan that will make the theory land for leadership, administration, and front-line workers. Research shows 60-80% of change initiatives FAIL when you FAIL to PREPARE for a Change initiative. Which do you choose? Failure or Success? Create the change that you desire and that children and families DESERVE—as a basic human right.

In the elegance of its simplicity, the Nurtured Heart Approach® is an easy approach to learn and apply particularly with children without high intensity and extremely challenging behavior. Unfortunately, it can backfire if you don’t apply it skillfully in crises or adverse situations which leaves some parents and professionals disillusioned and unequipped. This workshop empowers you with knowledge and skills to put you in the driver’s seat toward sustainable outcomes. ~sherry blair

Day 2: Develop Effective Direct Care Strategies for Working with Children and Teens

Training Description: Nurtured Heart Approach® is a powerful model to build nurturing and positive relationships within families, at schools and organizations. When used in tandem with other psychological and crisis prevention evidence-based strategies, success toward rule compliance, and behavior changes is accelerated. Being creative and innovative with NHA takes practice, perseverance, training and clinical supervision/coaching to build confidence and success especially with highly intense children, youth and families dealing with developmental disabilities, anxiety, trauma, attachment, at-risk behaviors, aggression and violence and family systems dysfunctionality. Participants will also learn the importance of promoting their own self-care as well as imparting this toward the parents and caregivers to avoid compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization and overall burnout.

Learning Objectives

  • Discover ways to implement NHA specifically with developmental challenges

  • Examine the NHA concept of “Reset” integrated with Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

  • Discriminate between behavioral challenges and the need for love and relationship

  • Give examples of barriers within family systems and how it impedes the healing process

  • Label ways on how to implement NHA practices, including boundaries and rules, that can reduce the level of opportunity for violence and aggression

  • Recognize warning signs for at-risk youth and list ways to increase safety measures

  • Explain and apply self-care strategies for daily practice at work and in practice with parents/caregivers

Two Powerful Nurtured Heart® Trainers Join Us For Day 2

Joe Clem, LMFT

Joe Clem earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University. He moved to Buffalo, NY and began working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Over 11 years ago, he found the book “Transforming the Difficult Child.” The power of the relational nature of the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA) blended with his solid behavioral foundation had immediate impact.

Joe, an NHA Advanced Trainer began his first CTI in 2009

In his agency, from 2009 through 2013, with implementation of the approach, a 31% reduction in behavioral incidents were achieved and maintained.

"Joe Clem brings such a level of clarity, with humor, love and brilliance, to understanding the approach.”

Joe also was selected to present at the Inaugural NHA Global Summit in 2011 and was invited to be part of the team to roll out the training of the approach in New Jersey’s Promising Path to Success SAMHSA Grant in 2016 to move New Jersey toward non-restraint in residential treatment facilities.

Joe consistently trains the NHA methodology in his community and has touched hundreds of people’s lives at schools and organizations. He uses the approach with children and families in New York’s wraparound system of care.

Joe is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and in Behavior Analysis (BCBA-LBA). Currently Joe holds a psychologist 2 position for the State of New York and maintains a private practice.

Together with Sherry Blair, they created “Demystifying the Nurtured Heart Approach®: Guiding Your From Theory to Best Practice” which received powerful praise from long time NHA Advanced Trainers and new Certified Trainers.
