Event description

Description

The career of Vancouver impresario Hugh Pickett spanned five decades. During this time he created an artistic management enterprise dedicated to sponsoring appearances by artists, and by ballet and theatre companies, including Margot Fonteyn, Laurence Olivier, Marlene Dietrich, and many more. Hugh was also press agent and company manager for Theatre Under the Stars for 15 years. A founding member of the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, Hugh also led successful efforts to save the Orpheum Theatre. Hugh was awarded the Order of Canada in 1986 in recognition of his desire to provide the best in management service for the love of the audiences, the artists, the music, and the theatre, rather than for financial reward. Hugh's records, along with those of his company Famous Artists, now reside at the City of Vancouver Archives.

Please join Bill Allman and Gord Boyd, who will present a CBC documentary on Hugh, and who will share their remembrances of Hugh’s significant contribution to the artistic climate of Vancouver.

Light refreshments served after presentation. Funds raised support the work of the City of Vancouver Archives. Additional donations welcomed.
