Description

A Pinch of Salt: The Restaurant Edition is a culinary training pilot voluntarily executed by Chef Raquel Rivera-Pablo in order to support aspiring chefs achieve their culinary goals. The 12-week culinary course is at no cost to participating students. Each week an aspiring chef will lead their classmates and guests through the preparation of a menu item they would like to feature at their future food business.


Chef Raquel has graciously opened up this inspiring program to the public. Guests may join the class for the day for a nominal fee of $25 per person and are encouraged to participate in the preparation of the meal. Guests will enjoy learning new culinary techniques as well as provide invaluable feedback to the aspiring chef regarding the meal of the day.

The long-term goal of Chef Raquel’s pilot program is to create community networks that will support future local Bridgeport-based food business. All proceeds will be invested back into the program.

Chef Raquel developed “A Pinch of Salt: The Restaurant Edition” to offer students a deeper level of training that’s realistic and encompasses in’s and out’s of the restaurant industry.

All ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible. Chef Raquel is actively seeking donations from local farmers markets, local food businesses and community partners to help sustain programming and keep cost low.

Any money raised by guests will help cover operating cost like ingredients, equipment, marketing, and nominal fee for kitchen usage.

A special thank you goes to Freddy Tomaj, owner of Milano Wine Bar & Pizzeria for generously providing his lovely space, supporting this project, and sharing the vision for uplifting small food business and the community of Bridgeport at large. About Chef Raquel

Chef Raquel Rivera-Pablo, owner of A Pinch of Salt, graduated from ICE with honors and completed her training at Le Bernadin in New York City. Chef Raquel served as the lead chef instructor at the West Side Campaign Against Hunger which provided patrons with a 12-week intensive curriculum focusing on classic culinary techniques and economical, nutritious meal plans.

As a Bridgeport resident, Chef Raquel offers culinary programming at Hall Neighborhood House, YMCA Ralphola Center, LifeBridge/Fresh Connection, senior enters, and seven Bridgeport Farmers Markets. Additionally, Chef Raquel developed an advanced culinary course for the CREATE Culinary Training program. She is also a pending board member of the Bridgeport Fund Policy Council and a current member of the Bridgeport Famers Market Collaboration. Chef Raquel continues to invest her business A Pinch of Salt within the Bridgeport community, bringing good food to all!
