Event description

Description

Here’s another great class with always-entertaining and ever-informative Chef Ellard!

In this “partial participation”class, Chef Ellard will show you how to prepare thick, rich, and stew-like Japanese Katsu Curry made with local pork, eggplant, and sweet potatoes and served with rice. To round out the meal, Chef Ellard will take participants on a tour of an often overlooked but important element in Japanese dishes: Tsukemono (also known as Japanese pickles). In doing so, he’ll show you how to prepare one type of Tsukemono, and he’ll also have several other colorful types of Japanese pickles that you can sample with the meal.

Be sure to bring your own sake or perhaps a Hitachino beer and enjoy a Tokyo style “Aloha Friday” meal.

About the Chef:

Chef Ellard is a chef, writer, public health advocate, fisherman, surfer, economist, musician, filmmaker, and part-time philosopher. As a Chef, he has cooked in many conventional and unconventional settings with and for great people with great hearts. He has cooked for the poor in San Francisco for Thanksgiving; made meatballs and eggplant Parmesan with director and winemaker Francis Ford Coppola; made lau lau and cooked in imus with Hawaiian Aunties and Uncles in the jungles of the Big Island; and cooked with his father, who taught him the recipes of his Italian and Ukranian heritage.

Since 2012, Chef Ellard has traveled the globe in search of authentic food adventures as a producer and host of the food and travel series the Culinary Edge TV.
