Join Dr. Mapy Chavez Askins, Executive Director of Alcanzando, Inc. and Co-Hosts Shelby Willcox and Jennifer Marchionda for an evening of learning and sharing
Camila is a 6 year old girl who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2.
Cami is an expressive child without the ability to communicate. Because of this, she has numerous daily melt-downs and a tendency to attempt to injure herself. The services that she needs cost three times as much as her family’s monthly income.
In 2016, thanks to Alcanzando’s scholarship program, she began receiving full-day sessions (6 hours per day) and has made significant progress - including saying her first words in October.
Like many children at Alcanzando, Cami has a long way to go. She still does not possess functional fluid communication and continues to resort to self-injurious behavior. Improving her communication is key to improving her behavior and her ability to experience her daily life more peacefully and ultimately, independently.
Without services early in Camila’s life, her behavior will deteriorate to the point where the likely result will be having to institutionalize her as an adult.
This is completely avoidable with the interventions and behavior services that Alcanzando can offer her.
Due to lack of funding, Camila has stopped receiving services.
This is why we are here.
The proceeds of this event will go directly to restoring full-time services for Cami and other children in similar situations.
You are invited to come learn more about some of the facts and fictions regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder, about the work we do around the world, and how you may help children like Camila become happy, healthy and independent members of their communities.
This is an opportunity to learn how you can make a big difference in the lives of children in need.
This evening will begin with hors d'oeuvre and soft drinks (a cash bar is available) and mingling with families and professionals in the field of Autism.
62% of each ticket goes to fund the services we provide, and it is tax-deductible for attendees.
($59 of the cost of each ticket goes directly to fund scholarship for Camila and other children who otherwise cannot afford the necessary services they need. $31 of the cost of each ticket covers the rental of space as well as food/beverage served the evening of the event; the remaining $5.54 is the fee charged by eventbrite.)
