The GLIDE Legacy Committee and St. Anthony's Young Professionals Council are excited to team up for a social and educational night at the Tenderloin Museum. Please join us for an opportunity to learn about the Tenderloin's rich history of activism and artistry.
The night will consist of complimentary drinks and small bites, a chance to experience the Tenderloin Museum, and to hear from Del Seymour, who has been giving Tenderloin Walking Tours for three years. Del helps uncover the hidden treasures of the Tenderloin, including: the site of the birth of the LBGT movement in the United States, the first luxury hotel for African Americans in San Francisco during the Jim Crow segregation times, former headquarters of the German Consulate during WWII, the site where Cassius Clay, George Foreman, and Michael Spinks trained, and the site of the shooting of the first full-length "adult movie."
Plus you'll hear from two iconic San Francisco organizations that serve our community everyday with love and respect.
We ask everyone to bring an essential item to help our neighbors. These items include new socks and new underwear for men and women, and feminine products.
When we're done at the musuem, we can keep the fun going by walking down to a Tenderloin classic, Aunt Charlie's, for more drinks.
Please join us to learn about our community, how you can get invovled, and meet like-minded people. We look forward to seeing you there!
- GLIDE Legacy Committee & St. Anthony's Young Professionals Council
About GLIDE: GLIDE serves a diverse cross-section of homeless, low-income and marginalized populations, providing an array of programs including: free meals, housing, primary and mental health care, domestic violence counseling and abatement, substance abuse recovery, childcare, afterschool and summer programs for youth and a family resource center, as well as lively Sunday Celebrations featuring the renowned Glide Ensemble gospel choir and rocking band. The organization literally and figuratively unlocks doors once closed to people on the margins, making GLIDE a life-changing gateway to one-stop-shop care that embraces every individual with dignity and respect.
About St. Anthony's: St. Anthony’s is an organization providing essential support to San Franciscans living in poverty. We believe that supporting people in need makes the city a better place to live. Every day, with dignity and respect, we offer thousands of the most vulnerable among us the basics we all need to feel human: a hot meal, fresh clothing, an opportunity to connect with the world around us. We bring people together in this work because we know it takes a community to break down barriers and create a society where all people flourish.
