Event description

Description

Did you know that many Russian-Australians were born in China, or are descendants of Russians from China? Harbin, a major junction city on the Chinese Eastern Railway was home to a huge population of RussIans from 1898 to the mid-1960s.

These communities survived the control of the Qing dynasty Empire, the Republic of China, Manchukuo and the People's Republic of China in this period before migrating to Australia. Jayne Persian, USQ Lecturer in History shares her fascinating new research into this unique group of Russian-Chinese-Australians.

This talk is a must for all Chinese-born Russian-Australians, their families and friends.

Between 5.30 and 7pm (before the talk begins), Harbin-style pelmeni dumplings will be available.
