Description

Background

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment, but anxiety and depression make that difficult. For those of us that suffer from these mental illnesses, mindfulness can be a powerful tool. It teaches us to take a step back and be aware and empathetic towards ourselves. Only then are we are able to have more presence in our everyday lives.

Similarly to mindfulness, photography and the outdoors have helped me through my mental health struggles. Experiencing nature and the moments I capture have enabled me to be fully present and accepting of who I am. Combined, they act as natural medication that keep my anxiety/depression in check.

The title of this exhibition is “A New Day” because once you are able to become more present and accepting of yourself, new light is shed onto your life. Your perspective of the world changes. You start living your life instead of trying to figure out how to end it.

This exhibition is created out of my intention to battle mental health more productively and, by speaking up, to inspire positive change for others.

Exhibition

Come join us as we look into what “A New Day” means through unfamiliar landscapes. We explore the peaks and valleys, internalized solitude and personal triumphs that come with the territory.

All proceeds (apart from those covering materials & event costs) will be donated to NamiSF, who is a non-profit based in San Francisco that provide help and educational resources to battle mental health in our local community.

Please join us in support of a good cause. This event is free and accessible to all. We are giving away tickets because the space only allows a certain amount of people. Drinks and small bites will be provided. Donations will be appreciated.
