Event description
A New Crisis: Understanding the Link Between Opioids and Elder

About this Event

“Older adults are an important but frequently forgotten generation that is affected by the opioid crisis in America...directly or inadvertently, older adults may be stripped of their resources and quality of life because of the struggles of those around them—and may be highly susceptible to elder abuse.”

In Opioids and Elder Abuse: A Disquieting Connection, Pamela B. Teaster, Ph.D. and Karen A. Roberto, Ph.D., Center for Gerontology, Virginia Tech along with colleagues from the National Council on Aging and the Elder Justice Coalition, have identified an additional level of concern for older adults and practitioners relative to the rampant Opioid Crisis; an increased risk of mistreatment and abuse.

Join Dr. Teaster and Dr. Roberto in a conversation about their research and engage with a panel of local experts as they discuss their experiences in the field of banking, law enforcement, community health services and protective services for the elderly.

Refreshments will be served.

This program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 886803373-2445) for 2.5 continuing education contact hours.
