About this Event

A NEW BORDER VISION

4pm-6pm / FREE w/ RSVP / All Ages Welcome

Complimentary bites by Penca

Music and art in southern Arizona have long been steeped in themes of community, resistance, and change. Restrictive immigration laws, divisions of tribal communities, racial profiling, and the destruction of ecosystems, water and wildlife are just some of the injustices border communities have been fighting for decades.

Polarizing rhetoric has only amplified in recent years, but activists and community members are forging new strategies to weather the storm, fight back, and built support systems.

Join us for a discussion that grounds the party at HOCO Fest in the political realities and movement for justice in the borderlands. We’ll pass the mic to folks advocating for a new vision for our community — one of sanctuary, dignity for all, and most radical of all, hope.

Panelists:

- Zaira Livier / People's Defense Initiative

- Hon'mana Seukteoma / Indivisible Tohono

- No Mas Muertes / No More Deaths

- Laiken Jordahl / Center for Biological Diversity

- Maxwell Lukas Mijnlieff Gay / Featured Visual Artist of HOCO 2019

Moderated by Dr. Maurice Rafael Magaña
