In honor of Mother's Day, this program is composed to honor women worldwide: composers, activists, writers, scientists, mathematicians, administrators, accountants, programmers, farmers, environmentalists, teachers, reverends, healers, lawyers, musicians, and any other profession you can conceive (not forgetting our mothers, of course!). All of our performers are women and we will be performing works by or inspired by women. Come out with your families (men and boys welcome!) to celebrate women and mothers on this special day.

PROGRAM (to include)
KAYAK by Janika Vandervelde
Street Music for Violin and Harpsichord by Asako Hirabayashi
Aromatic Reinventions by Janika Vandervelde

A Twin Cities native, Jennifer Lang began playing the violin at age 7, studying initially with Kristina Lantz of the Rochester Symphony. Jennifer played through all of her school years, competing and taking prizes in local competitions, and then departed for Oberlin, OH, for undergraduate studies with Marilyn McDonald. As a French and violin double major, Jennifer then left for Paris, France, for post-undergraduate work where she studied with Jeanne-Marie Conquer.

As an orchestral artist, Jennifer plays with the Minnesota Sinfonia and the Lyra Baroque Ensemble. As a recitalist, Jennifer is especially passionate about cross medium collaborations. One of her more recent recitals collaborations was with local dance historian Jane Peck, for a program integrating baroque instruments and dance.

A teacher of violin for over 15 years, Jennifer taught violin to students at the International School of Paris and Ecole Koenig during her post-graduate studies in France, and continues to teach here in the Twin Cities at Ovation Academy and the Kramer School of Music.

Beyond violin, Jennifer has many interests--especially in the areas of the environment and personal wellness. Certified through the Permaculture Research Institute as an urban farmer, Jennifer stays informed about community gardening efforts in the Twin Cities area. She is also completing her Master Recycler Certification. Jennifer just finished her term as president of Cooperative Energy Futures, a Twin Cities-based energy cooperative that focuses on community solar gardens. She is co-author of The Art of Wellbeing: A Resource for Health and Healing.
