FAQs

What are my transportation and parking options?

  • Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (511 Groveland Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403, http://haumc.org) is on the 4, 6, and 12 Metro Transit bus lines (http://metortransit.org). Limited free parking is available on-site and ample underground pay parking is across the street at the Vineland Place ramp at Walker Art Center (727 Vineland Place, Minneapolis, MN 55403, https://www.mplsparking.com/).

Which entrance should I use?

  • Please use the parking lot entrance on the east side of the building. Look for a tall glass entrance with an inlaid blue cross in the window. If you're taking a cab/Uber/Lyft, please be sure to ask your driver to take you to the parking lot entrance, as these services often attempt to drop people off at the classic entrance on the north side of the building, which will be locked!

Where do I go upon entry?

  • Pre-purchased book ticket holders: From either entrance, show your electronic or paper ticket to a Magers & Quinn staff person to check in and receive your pre-purchased book, starting at 5:00pm.
  • Free reserved ticket holders: Starting at 5:30pm, check in at either entrance with a Magers & Quinn staff person. Once pre-purchase ticket holders have been seated, free ticket holders will be seated.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

  • You may show your e-ticket on your phone or bring a printed ticket.

Can I update my registration information?

  • Yes.

Is my pre-purchased ticket or reservation transferrable?

  • Yes, until Tuesday, October 1, 2019.

About the speakers:

Jim Wallis is a globally respected writer, teacher, preacher, and justice advocate who believes the gospel of Jesus must be transformed from its cultural and political captivities. He is a New York Times bestselling author, widely recognized public theologian, renowned speaker, and regular international commentator on ethics and public life. He is the Founder, President, and Editor-In-Chief of Sojourners, and is the author of 12 books, including America's Original Sin, God’s Politics, The Great Awakening, and The Call to Conversion. He served on President Obama's White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and has taught faith and public life courses at Harvard and Georgetown University. “Coach Jim” also served for 22 seasons as a Little League coach for his two baseball playing sons.

Peggy Flanagan is Minnesota’s 50th Lieutenant Governor. The principle of Peggy’s career is giving back, particularly to children, families, communities of color, American Indians, and low-income and working people. As a former State Representative and community organizer, Peggy brings her experiences of building coalitions and advocating for children and families to the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, as she works in close partnership with Governor Tim Walz to build One Minnesota.

A St. Louis Park native, Peggy is proud to be a graduate of St. Louis Park Public Schools and the University of Minnesota, graduating in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in American Indian studies and child psychology. She worked for almost a decade at Wellstone Action, the organization founded to carry on the work of the late Senator Paul Wellstone. As one of the original trainers of Wellstone Action’s signature program Camp Wellstone, she has trained tens of thousands of progressive activists, community and campaign organizers, and elected officials and candidates – including Governor Walz!

Following her work at Wellstone Action, Peggy served as the Executive Director of Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota, a non-profit child-advocacy organization working to level the playing field for all children in our region and state. In 2015, Peggy Flanagan was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, serving her own community of St. Louis Park, as well as Golden Valley, Plymouth and Medicine Lake. While in office, Peggy served as the DFL lead on the Subcommittee on Child Care Access and Affordability. During the 2017 session she joined with other DFL legislators to form the POCI (People of Color and Indigenous) caucus. The caucus aims to improve the education, health and economic opportunities of people of color and indigenous communities across the state.

A citizen of the White Earth Nation of Ojibwe, Peggy lives in St. Louis Park with her daughter Siobhan and far-too-energetic dog Reuben.
