Description

A Mindful Approach to Whiteness (Bay Area)

This workshop is for self-identified white educators and will provide a chance to engage in a mindfulness-informed exploration of our white racial conditioning together in community. For those of us who identify as white, it can be challenging to come to grips with:

  • The deep impact that historical systemic racism and white supremacy has had on our society and people of color

  • The ways in which our racial blind spots and implicit bias manifest and impact those around us

  • The racial privilege that has benefited us as white people and distorted our world view

  • The ways that these phenomena have also negatively impacted us as white people

This journey of white racial awakening offers a tremendous opportunity for personal and professional change. To help guide this process of seeing more clearly our relationship to whiteness and race, we’ll be using a variety of experiential practices, small group discussions, and simple mindfulness meditations. All experience levels in racial justice work and mindfulness meditation are welcome to attend.
