About this event
Berkeley Shakespeare Company presents one special weekend of performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Musical! at The Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley!
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Musical! is a delightful romp through Shakespeare’s most accessible and hilarious comedy. The balance of power between the genders and the generations are up in the air in this timeless tale of love thwarted by jealous fantasies and patriarchal assumptions.
The music will enchant you with hauntingly beautiful songs sung by four sets of star-crossed lovers, both mortal and immortal. Shakespeare’s story is slightly updated giving us the opportunity to present to audiences from six to sixty-six: The Rude Mechanicals, an aspiring amateur rock band consisting of a plumber, electrician, barrista, carpenter, and junior college student.
They will send you into stitches as they perform their rock opera, “Pyramis and Thisby” for the King, taking you on a journey from doo-wop, through the blues, R & B, acid rock, country, and heavy metal styles, as they turn a classical romance into another series of misadventures. You will leave the theater laughing, humming the show’s tunes and comforted by the fact that it all comes right in the end.
