Event description

Description

Join Stephen WIse Free Synagogue for prayer, a complimentary lunch, and learning at its annual Schwartz Goldstein Lecture and Kehilat Shabbat. After worship and a festive meal, Rabbi James Ponet, the Howard M. Holtzmann Jewish Chaplain Emeritus at Yale University, will address the congregation in a talk entitled “The Mystery of the Friend: A Meditation on Solitude and Loneliness.”

Some people lead friendless lives, empty of intimacy and personal connection, and it is possible that they, or at least some of them, are satisfied with their lot and do not even secretly yearn for a friend. Ever a stranger in a strange land, disconnected from family, and lacking close friends, perhaps Moses was just such a person. Our guides will include rabbis, philosophers, poets, and writers as we think together about the public and private Moses and ponder ancient and modern explorations into friendship and its relationship to solitude and loneliness.
