Description
Join renowned science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson for a master class and Q&A session on climate fiction, research processes, and the writing life on Thursday, September 21 at 3:00 pm. Drawing on his latest book—New York 2140, a vivid portrayal of life in New York City after a fifty-foot rise in sea levels—Robinson will share some of his strategies for using scientific research as an underpinning for creating convincing narrative structures and lush, believable worlds. How do we balance the need to convey information with the artistic demands of the creative process? How can plot, character, setting, and other literary devices be used to transcend exposition? Robinson will also share more general strategies and tips on the writing process.
As ample time will be provided for informal discussion, participants are encouraged to come ready with questions.
