THIS MONTH'S PRACTITIONER:

Jen SorianoJen Soriano is a Filipina-American journalist, communications consultant, and social movement strategist based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is a leader in creative communications for social justice, specializing in participatory strategies to build the influence of organizing groups and alliances.

Between 2002 and 2008, Jen co-founded the Center for Media Justice in Oakland, CA along with CMJ’s Executive Director Malkia Cyril. She has served as CMJ’s communications TA provider, program director, and associate director and is currently CMJ Board Chair.

As the owner of Lionwrite Communications, Jen has worked with a number of social movement groups including the Grassroots Global Justice Alliance, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, Domestic Workers United, Cause Justa :: Just Cause, the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, and the California Environmental Justice Alliance. As a journalist, Jen has worked with Mother Jones magazine, Free Speech Radio News, the Center for Investigative Reporting, Free Speech TV, War Times, Organizing Upgrade and the Huffington Post.

Jen is currently Communications Coordinator for the RoadMap Consulting Group and Interim Communications Director for the We Belong Together campaign for common sense immigration reform.
