A Lost Kingdom?

The Middle Thames Region and the Making of Early Historic England

Drawing inspiration from new archaeological finds, this one-day symposium re-evaluates the role of the Middle Thames region in the wider political, social and economic dynamics of southern England over the 5th to 8th centuries A.D.

What relationships did this region share with neighbouring regions of the Thames and beyond?

How can it inform our understanding of frontiers as active arenas in the formation and signalling of early medieval cultural and political identities?

The symposium is timed to coincide with the opening of a temporary exhibition at Maidenhead Heritage Centre showcasing relevant archaeological discoveries.

Speakers include: Lyn Blackmore, John Blair, Steve Clark, Steve Ford, Helena Hamerow, Gabor Thomas, Leslie Webster and Gareth Williams.
