Event description

Description

Come hear the firsthand account of the barriers faced by a foster and adoptive mother to care for her children and the law she authored in an effort to bring about changes for thousands of children and families throughout the state of Arizona.

This workshop aims to educate participants about the implementation of House Bill 2442 better known as Jacob’s Law. This bill was developed to ensure easier, better access to behavioral health care services for foster and adopted children from Arizona. The primary focus was to ensure that children received timely behavioral and urgent health services while protecting caregivers against allegations from the Department of Child Safety (DCS) due to their children’s mental illness.

Participants will:

Learn about the provisions made through House Bill 2442 - Jacobs Law.

Learn how to advocate for a foster or adoptive child.

Learn about the covered services that children as well as their caregivers are entitled to receive.

Learn how to navigate the behavioral health system as well as how to request and get timely services for children

Learn about DCS allegation of abuse, neglect or abandonment.

Presented by: Anika Robinson, Mother, Champion for Children & Community Foster Care Liaison with AHCCCS

A certificate of attendance will be provided.
