This is the 3rd online wānanga in our short series focused on Māori resistance, and building Māori resilience, in the planning and policy context, facilitated by the Resilience to Nature's Challenges National Science Challenge, and Papa Pounamu - Māori planners and practitioners forum.
The government has released the draft Spatial Planning Bill which provides for the development and implementation of long-term, strategic spatial planning across New Zealand through the development of regional spatial strategies, and draft Natural and Built Environment Bill (NBE Bill) which aims to protect and restore the environment while better enabling development, and as the primary replacement for the RMA. The NBE Bill will provide for a National Planning Framework (NPF) that would replace existing pieces of national direction. Regions would be required to prepare natural and built environment plans (NBE plans).
This online kōrero will be led by Tina Porou of Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Ngai Tāmanuhiri, Rongomaiwahine and Ngāti Rakaipaaka descent. Like previous ones, it will be an interactive wānanga-style event with opportunities for questions and discussion amongst ourselves. It will be recorded, and likely made available post-wānanga, to empower and enable iwi, hapū, whānau.
*** This workshop is for tāngata whenua - iwi, hapū, whānau, kaitiaki, Māori. It is also open to tangata Tiriti (non-Māori) allies that support and actively empower and enable Māori resilience and a bicultural management paradigm from within their own contexts. Anybody else that tries to attend with a different agenda will be swiftly (and unapologetically) exited from the Zui ***
The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday 7th December 3-5pm, the moon is Atua Whakahaehae. A medium energy day - good for being mindful, taking notice of the world around us and reducing the harm towards our natural environment.
If you would like to contribute a koha towards this kaupapa there is an option to "make a donation" when you register. Any koha will be used towards this ongoing kaupapa as the research funding is really limited. There is absolutely no expectation or requirement to pay anything though, we want this information and opportunity to be available to all tāngata whenua (and tangata Tiriti that support this agenda).
