A Joke For Bella is the story of resilience in the face of horror, of laughter to avoid despair, and of illusion to find hope. This play is for all who have suffered and for those still suffering.

A dark tragic/comedy set in a forced labor camp during World War II, a Joke for Bella portrays the experiences of a small group of inmates –mainly Bella and Sadie. The play begins over 70 years after the war and Bella has just died. As a tribute to Bella, Sadie finally wants to tell their story. As Sadie reminisces, we witness a re-enactment of their time in the camp through a combination of prose, poetry and prayer.
