Description

Join us for a jazz-infused concert of holiday favorites including Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" Vince Guaraldi's music from "A Charlie Brown Christmas", selections from "The Nutcracker" as well as jazz arrangements of some popular holiday tunes. Stargazing (weather permitting) will follow.

Suggested Donation: $5 Adults, $3 Children Under 12


Meet the members of the Transitions Saxophone Quartet:

William Link, Soprano & Alto Saxes

Mr. Link is co-founder of Transitions Saxophone Quartet, which commemorates 30 years of performances this month. William Link has been an instrumental music instructor in the Comsewogue School District for the last 30 years, having taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels. He earned his B.A. as a double major in music and communications at the State University of New York at Oswego, received his M.S. in Music Education at Long Island University and his certification in School District Administration from Stony Brook University.
Mr. Link just concluded his 31st season as director and conductor of the Smithtown Community Band, a 65 member ensemble he founded in 1987. He has been a guest conductor for the North Fork Festival Band, the Shoreham Wading River Community Band and the Stony Brook Wind Ensemble.


Michael Rudnicki, Alto Sax

Michael Rudnicki has played second alto saxophone in the Transitions Saxophone Quartet for the past 10 years and is the only non-original musician in the group. He has been a public school music teacher for the past twenty two years and has taught at all levels of band. He is currently teaching instrumental music in the Patchogue Medford school district. Mr. Rudnicki received his Bachelor of Music Education from the Crane School of Music and his Graduate degree from Stony Brook University.


Phil Kuczewski, Tenor Sax

Phil currently works as a Senior Technical Research Associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory and specializes in electronics.

His music endeavors started as an adult in 1985 when he studied saxophone performance privately under Jeff Mitchell. Phil has performed on Saxophone with the Shoreham Wading River Community Band, Possum Trot Swing Band, New York Notes, Sound Symphony and currently enjoys playing with The Smithtown Community Band, West Islip Symphony Orchestra, Transitions Sax Quartet and is section principle with The Stony Brook University Wind Ensemble.

Phil is currently studying Classical Guitar with James Erickson and is an active member at The Custer Institute.


William Leacock, Baritone Sax

William Leacock has been playing the baritone and bass saxophone with Transitions Saxophone Quartet for the past 31 years as a founding member of the group. He holds the lead alto saxophone chair with the Smithtown Community Band and is also the baritone saxophone player with the Half Hollow Hills All-Star Alumni Jazz Band. William is an AP Physics Teacher at Mepham High School in Bellmore, NY, where he enjoys playing baritone saxophone and bass clarinet with the school’s pit orchestra. William is a New York State Master Teacher and the 2007 recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
