A Japanese A5 Wagyu Beef Dinner Event
Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (PDT)
Palo Alto, CA
SVUnderground.com presents a multi course dinner featuring the highest grade of beef - the A5 Wagyu beef direct from Japan, with our humane "faux" gras and kopi luwak, the rarest and most expensive coffee in the world. Check out the menu below!
In Japan, their system for grading meat is far more extensive and detailed than ours. In Japan, they look at 4 major categories: Marbling; Color & Brightness of Meat; Firmness & Texture of Meat; and Color, Luster & Quality of Fat.
The cut of Beef is given ratings in each of those individual categories, and then an overall final grade is assigned, with 15(!) levels, ranging from the lowest (C1), up to the maximum grade (A5). Suffice to say that the maximum grade A5 Wagyu Beef in Japan is very expensive. On a side note, informal discussions by chefs and vendors about how USDA Prime (the highest grade given out in the U.S. system) would rate in Japan, put our cuts in the range of "A1 - A2".
Local restaurants sell a single 6 oz. cut of A5 wagyu from Japan for $250-280. This amount is just for the wagyu, no side dishes, no drinks, etc.
Last year, SVUnderground had an A5 wagyu dinner event that sold out in a matter of days. We are bringing this back! Space is very limited, our dinners always sell out, please register early. This is a BYOB event with no corkage or service fee.
