Description

Course Description:
This is a one day, introductory course to a six module curriclum series, that is specifically designed for dentists who are interested in learning how to place and restore dental implants.The course combines lectures, hands-on workshop, surgical videos and group discussion secession. A practical approach using evidence-based dentistry will be applied to discuss surgical implant placement, impression techniques and provisionalization. Case scenarios will be presented from a combined restorative / surgical approaches to improve treatment plan decision making and case selection. The hands-on workshop will include specifically designed study model for dental implant placement and impression techniques. A second study model will be provided to practice implant provisionalization technique.

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Be familiar with the clinical and laboratory components of dental implants
  • Understand the basic surgical procedures and flap designs related to dental implants
  • Understand importance of soft tissue development using implant provisionalization.
  • Be familiar with restorative materials type and abutment designs for single tooth restorations.
  • Decide indications to employ the immediate provisional concept.
  • Understand the bio-mechanic of single tooth implant restoration.

The Hands-on Surgical Workshop Learning Objectives:

  • Understand steps for surgical implant placement.
  • Learn how to fabricate cement and screw retained implant provisional.

Speaker Bios:
Dr. Bassam M. Kinaia D.D.S., M.S., D.I.C.O.I.

Dr. Kinaia is the Director of the Graduate Periodontics Specialty Program at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He also served as the Program Director at the Boston Institute for Dental Research and Education in Dubai.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and the International Congress of Oral Implantology. He received his D.D.S. and Certificate and M.S. in Periodontics and Dental Implants from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and St. John Health. He is an OKU inductee and a recipient of the prestigious AAP award for outstanding teaching and mentoring in Periodontics.

He has numerous journal publications, chapter books and research in the fields of immediate implant placement, soft tissue augmentation and bone grafting around dental implants and treatment of gummy smile using esthetic crown lengthening and surgical lip repositioning. He serves on the Peer Review Panel of the Journal of Periodontology and Clinical Advances in Periodontics as well as an ad hoc editor for the Journal of Dentistry and Oral Biology. His areas of interest include dental implants, esthetic crown lengthening and advanced soft tissue and bone grafting. He lectures nationally and internationally on the latest trends in periodontics and dental implants. He is a clinician with 28 years of experience and maintains a private practice limited to Periodontics and Dental Implants in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He has been voted a Top Dentist by peer dentists in Hour Detroit Magazine.

Dr. Mo Koutrach D.D.S., F.A.C.P
Dr. Koutrach received his DDS degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He completed his specialty certificate in Prosthodontics at the Indiana University School of Dentistry and his Maxillofacial Prosthodontics certificate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He also attended one year of fellowship in the graduate Periodontics program at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Dr. Koutrach has been involved in academic teaching throughout his career and currently services as a Clinical Associate Professor at University of Texas Health Center (UTH) School of Dentistry. He lectures nationally and internationally in the field of Prosthodontics and dental implantology. Dr. Koutrach has written numerous publications on dental implants and Prosthodontics.
